We are in the last week of the regular season and I am still missing a fair amount of results.  I will be calling alot of you over the next couple of days to get them.  Please get you games in if you haven't or even if you have lost a game please update so that I can update the results and start getting some idea of the playoff seating.

As a reminder the BQ will be at my house this time.  It is slated for July 16th.  40k final i would like to see start around 10:30am.  40k Draft should be around 3pm.

I think we will have 5-6 game tables, a pool table, and a pool.

ALso please shot me email about wheather or not you will be playing next season.  Also please include in that email you favorite opponent that you played this season so we can hand out the best sportsmanship award.

Website and Scheduling.

Apr 15,2011

I know I got behind on the schedule.  It has been updated through week 7  now I will have the rest of the schedule up by the end of this week end.

With the issues we have had with the website we are going to have to finish this season on the current site.  I will be working with a leaugue member on getting a new site up and going.  Though our requirement seem simple enough to us it has not translated well to people not familar with the game and league.  By having someone that is a member and understands all of our pain we should be able to a much better working site.

So if you could please update your results for the games you have played I will get them updated in the standing.

Also as a reminder the BQ and draft will be at my house at the end of the season.  After I get the schedule update I will set the BQ date.

General reminder:  Slaughter in Space this memorial day weekend in LA.

Lets get a good showing from the league out there.  More info and registration packet can be found at www.slaughterinspace.com .

Fantasy Mini GT and Strategicon!

May 06,2010

Reminder to the league faithful:

On the weekend of May 22nd-23rd we are running a mini-GT at the LA Battle Bunker.  Entry fee is $30, due day of, and it will be 2 battles per day with full prize support.  League members who participate will recieve a bonus Road in the next Fantasy Season, as well.  Scenarios and rules will be previews of the SoCal Slaughter in August.  Rules are 2250 with no Special Characters, just like the Slaughter.

Here is the Fantasy Mini GT packet:

www.scgwl.com/downloads/GT/WFBMiniGT.pdf

The Weekend following, we will be running one day RTTs at Strategicon, which has relocated to a much more agreeable location.  This is an expirimental run with their organization, so we would like to see as much participation as possible.  Standard league RTT rules formats apply for both the 40k and Fantasy events.  If we get enough participation, we will sweeten the prize pool and look at adding additional side events next time.

Packets for the Strategicon events may be found here:

Slaughter in Space 2 is in the Books!

Apr 19,2010

http://www.scgwl.com/downloads/SIS10/Scores.pdf

That is the link to the PDF of the final score sheet.  I blanked the individual player scored comp and sports, but the totals are there.  The Army Comp column represents what the judges assessed the lists and was used solely to pair the first two rounds.  There are also two people who dropped who are not on the list.

Big Congratulations to both David Fay and Justin Hinderbrandt who earned their golden tickets to Vegas Finals!

Photos will be comming soon after the crew has a chance to settle down.

All in all, it was a great weekend and everyone seemed to enjoy the new venue and atmosphere.  Everything went smoothly and we were done on time with no technical glitches.  Thanks to Romeo from Battlefoam's generous contributions to the already large GW Prize pile, our tournament players walked off with over 2 grand in prize support and trophies!

Thanks all and we hope to see you at our future events!

Mar 17,2010

The scenarios are:

SCGWL 2010 Event Calendar Set!

Jan 11,2010

The dates for most of the SCGWL events are now set.  It looks to be an active year with a couple GTs and RTTs added to the mix.

Here is the basic breakdown:

January 23rd- League Finals and Draft at Mike Garner's house.  Be there or have your money and proxy draft list in.

March 6th- Fantasy Doubles Tournament!  This will be held at the LA Battle Bunker, with the teams of two armies set at 1250 points.  The scenarios used and format will be identical to what will be run as the Saturday side event at this year's Slaughter in Space, so this is a chance to get some practice in.  There is no entry fee for this event.

April 16th-18th- Slaughter In Space 2!  This event will take place at the Ontario Convention Center, with 5 rounds of tournament play.  For Fantasy Players there is a team tournament on Saturday and a Warband tournament on Sunday.  Pricing and event details on all tournaments will be posted in the forums, once they are finalized.

May 22nd-23rd- SCGWL Fantasy Mini GT!  This will be a five round GT held at the LA Battle Bunker, with a limit of 40 players.  The scenarios used will be identical to this year's SoCal Slaughter, so here is a chance get a jump on the competition!  There will be prize support and League members will recieve a bonus terrirory for the following season for participating.  Entry fee will be $30 per player.

June 12th-13th- SCGWL 40k Mini GT! This will be a five round GT held at the LA Battle Bunker, with a limit of 40 players.  There will be prize support and League members will recieve a bonus territory for the following season for participating.  Entry fee will be $30 per player.

July 10th- 40k Annihilator Tournament!  This will take place at the LA Battle Bunker.  Armies will be 2500 points with the choice of one of the following options:  One Superheavy or Gargantuan Creature allowed in the army,  One Apocalypse Strategem, or Formation (not containing superheavies or flyers).  In addition, units from Imperial Armor books that are not Super Heavies or Fliers may be taken in their normal force organizational spots, so dust off some of those special forgeworld models!

August 20th-22nd- SoCal Slaugter 4!  This event will take place at the Ontario Convention Center with five rounds of tournament play.  There will be side events for 40k players, with a team tournament on saturday and a Combat Patrol tournament on sunday.  Details and pricing will be posted in the forums once it is finalized.

So, as everyone can see, this will be a busy year.  Be sure to mark your calendars and get your armies ready to play.

Message from Mike Garner

Dec 16,2009

I've been Commissioner of the SCGWL for almost seven years, and have seen alot of growth during that period. We've begun two major Indy GT's and have more members than ever before. The SoCal Slaughter and the Slaughter in Space are poised to become two of the main events on the GW circuit. I take some measure of pride in the League's progress, but realize that the League's growth has been a matter of the efforts of many people who made it possible.

It is time for me to step down as Commissioner of the SCGWL. I've been fortunate to be associated with so many excellent people that reflect so well on the League, and the hobby itself. The League has grown beyond any one person, and it's time for new leadership with the drive that will take the League and the Slaughters to the next level. I'm passing on the mantle of leadership to the only group of people that I would entrust something that has meant so much to me for so long.

The League will now be run by the group that made it what it is today, Quentin & Jenn Bohn, Scott & Carol Tiveron, and Mike Ulibarri. These people have given their time, effort, & love to this League over the years, and now it's time for them to lead it into the future. Effective immediately, Quentin Bohn will be Commissioner of the Fantasy side of the League, and Scott Tiveron will be Commissioner of the 40K side. I ask all of you to give them the support that you have given me over the years. I have absolute faith that they will maintain the League in the spirit it has been run in over the last 12 years.

In closing I want you all to know that I appreciate every one of you that was part of the League during the time I was Commissioner. I'd like to especially thank Charlie Nichols, Pat Lowinger, Roman Baker, Ron McLaughlin, Evan Lougheed, Matt Manders, and last, but not least, Jim Zaphirou.

I look forward to getting back to playing Fantasy and seeing all of you at the Championship BBQ on January 23rd.

Mike Garner

3rd Commissioner, Ret.

SoCal Slaughter

Mar 03,2009
Alright Folks, we're coming down to the wire.  The SoCal Slaughter Indy GT is this weekend.  We still have space available for those who want to play.  If so, contact me for information, or check our webpage at SCGWL.com.  If you have signed up, army lists are due by tomorrow night (Weds), so if you haven't sent them, it's time.

For those of you that aren't going to be playing in the 40K GT, we have a number of other events scheduled.  There will be a Blood Bowl tournament on Saturday, beginning at 10 AM.  There will be a Fantasy Special Character Deathmatch Sunday beginning at 10 AM.  Both days there will be Gaming board painting workshops, featuring GW's beautiful new plastic hobby boards, Mordheim games, and "How to" clinics on making display bases for your army.  Add this to open gaming, multiple vendors, food, drink, and fun, and it will be a great hobby weekend.  Come on down and visit, even if you're not playing.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me, or call me.  I look forward to seeing you all.

Fantasy Challenge Awards are in affect now!

Jan 23,2009

Hey Everybody,

Q is laboriosly stat tracking the Slayer Challeges this season (Beastslayer, Mageslayer, and Lordslayer). Make sure you remember to report this kills in the comments section of your battle reports!

These challenges are fully optional but are PRIZE-SUPPORTED and will be recorded on our future HALL OF FAME. There can be only one!

If you forget the rules or are new, head to the fantasy forums and look for the section FANTASY CHALLENGE AWARDS for all details!

Will anyone break last year's leaders? Q was mageslayer, Ensley was lord slayer (an obscene 8!), and I believe there was no winner* for the beastslayer. Time will tell, so happy slaying!

So Cal Slaughter in 2 Weeks!

Oct 13,2008

Hey guys...just 3 weeks for the Slaughter! This is our league's premiere indy GT! What does this mean? Well, as you know GW has an official circuit of tournaments throughout the UK and USA, and to accompany these events there are the official Independent Tournaments as well, usually run by large and well know clubs. SCGWL is one of those Indy hosts, but not for long because starting next year our league will be officially added to the GW Tournament Circuit. This means your participation and results at the So Cal Slaughter will be posted on GWs site under Tournament Circuit Results and you can see where your rank nationally!

  1. Does my army have to be painted? Absolutely not! But the better painted means better score in that category.

  2. What if Im new or not that competitive? These events are full of veterans and newbies and are a blast for all! If they wernt fun for everyone they wouldnt be growing every year!

  3. Im curious but not sure, who can I contact to ask more questions? You can contact Mike Garner in the Links section on the left side of the web site, he's the commissioner or you can click the forums, under warhammer fantasy and click So Cal Slaughter for event info, and/or simply make a new post with your questions and comments!

SCGWL Hosts Gateway RTTs August 29th - September 1st.

Aug 09,2008
Hey there folks.  As many of you have heard, the SCGWL will for the first time host the RTTs on both days for the Gateway Convention.  I understand that many of you have not been pleased with the venue in the past, and some of the past organizers.  Well, I have good news for all of us.  The Stratecicon Conventions are under new ownership who have made plans and taken the steps to revitalize the Conventions.  They have heard your concerns, and are working to improve the location.

Now it's time to do our part.  If we want the Conventions to pick back up to the good ole days, we have to attend them.  We do our part by showing up, having fun, and representing the League, as well as the whole Southern California Gaming Community.

The Saturday August 30th (Aka: Commissioner's B-day) Fantasy RTT will be 2250 points.  Special Characters and DOW will be allowed (though I'll still scowl at them).  Painting will be scored, but is not required to play.  No lists will be required in advance.

The Sunday September 1st 40K RTT will be 1750 points, using 5th Ed.

We will have all new scenarios at both RTTs, designed by our own Competition Committees.  Please go to Strategicon.net to register for the events.

Darrian Dalangini Wins Winter 2007 40K Championship

Jun 13,2008

Big Congratulations to Darrian "Wee-Man" Dalangini on his first Championship win.  It was the closest Championship Game either League has had in a long time.  In a hard fought battle, Darrian defeated past Champion Charlie Nichols.

This was a big win for Darrian, since Charlie had owned him in the past, and none of us wanted to console Darrian if Charlie slapped him around as usual.  Charlie took the loss like a true past Champion.  He curled up in the corner and cried into his beer.

Ok folks. Now that I'm caught up with the data entry for the webpage, I've got updated totals for the Fantasy Challenges.

First up, in the Kingslayer Challenge, Big Todd Ensley is way out in front of the pack with 5 Lords put in the ground. He hasn't let one off the table alive yet. In the Beast Slayer, Eric Gerber and Marcos Acevados are tied at 2 each. And finally, mages are getting killed left and right this season. In the Mageslayer, Robert (Daddy)Knudsen is out in front with 6 pesky wizards down, followed by Stefan Viter and Todd Ensley, who have Whack-A-Mole'd 4 wizards each into a final resting place.

We'll keep you updated.
